Read the Overview page in the right order

Start with the time selector. Podbean says it applies to the Overview sections except User Retention, which has its own window. A chart can look wrong when the visible dates do not match the period in your notes.

Then choose the section that owns your question:

• Podcast Trends: downloads, listeners, new followers, and interactions over the selected period
• Latest Episodes: downloads for the five newest releases
• Top Episodes: the five episodes with the most downloads in the chosen context
• Download Sources: attributed sources such as podcast apps and browsers
• Platforms: device information
• Where Your Audience Comes From: geographic reporting
• Most Active Times: download activity by day and hour

Do not add these fields into one audience total. Downloads, followers, interactions, and retention describe different events.

Open Statistics > Episodes for the detailed episode view. Podbean's official episode statistics guide divides it into Episode Performance, Download Trends, and Listener Engagement.

Use the sections this way:

1. Episode Performance compares a release with the average for your last 10 episodes, last 50 episodes, or all episodes, up to 500. Podbean allows up to 10 selected episodes in a comparison.
2. Download Trends shows results by date for all episodes or a selected release. In the all-episode view, you can open a daily total to see its episode breakdown.
3. Listener Engagement reports behavior Podbean can observe through the Podbean podcast website, embedded player, and app.

A release comparison is most useful when episodes have the same age and a similar job. An older interview, a new trailer, and a bonus episode have had different opportunities to collect requests and may serve different goals.

Keep Podbean downloads separate from engagement

Podbean's episode reporting includes engaged listeners, average consumption rate, average consumption time, and visual engagement charts. Its documentation limits that engagement scope to listeners observed through Podbean's own website, embedded player, or app.

That makes the data useful, but not universal. A person listening in Apple Podcasts or Spotify is inside another product's measurement boundary. Use each listening app's creator dashboard for the behavior it can see, and keep those figures beside rather than inside the Podbean download total.

Podbean says episode engagement can take up to 24 hours to appear. A missing engagement chart immediately after release is not the same problem as missing host downloads.

If Podbean downloads look wrong

Check these causes in order:

1. Wrong podcast: confirm the show selected in the dashboard.
2. Wrong period: reset the time selector and note that it does not control User Retention.
3. Wrong reporting level: use Statistics > Episodes for a release rather than a show-wide total.
4. Different metric: confirm whether you are comparing downloads, listeners, followers, or in-app engagement.
5. Processing time: allow the documented window for engagement data before diagnosing that specific report.
6. Source-specific issue: if one app disappears from Download Sources while other delivery remains normal, investigate that source before assuming the whole audience changed.

Podbean's IAB certification article says its download, listener, and ad-delivery measurement is IAB Tech Lab certified. Certification gives the report a documented measurement standard. It does not make a host download identical to completion inside a listening app.
