Simplecast's analytics overview describes the Audience page as the home for standard download and listener views. The Overview section includes all-time downloads, current short-period summaries, recent-episode performance, downloads over time, top episodes, listening methods, time of day, and location reporting.

The same source says advanced Audience reports can show downloads over time for a show or episode, with hour, day, week, or month views depending on the report. Web-player retention belongs to a separate report and concerns activity in Simplecast's player, not every listening app.

Use Audience when you need a quick host overview. Use Analytics and Content Reports when you need a custom period, chosen dimensions, an export, or a reusable report definition.

Compare Simplecast episodes at the same age

A lifetime total favors episodes that have been available longer. For a fair release comparison, measure each episode over the same period after publication.

Simplecast documents a Time Since Publication Date filter for Content Reports. Its guide shows how to compare episode downloads during the first week after release by filtering the show, selecting the first publication-age interval, splitting by Episode Name, and using Downloads as the metric. It also warns that the overall date range must be wide enough to contain the complete post-release interval for every episode.

Why the breakdown may not equal total downloads

Do not assume a lower location or technology subtotal means missing downloads. Simplecast's audience-report explanation says a valid request may not include enough anonymized information to identify location, browser, operating system, or application. Those downloads can remain in the total without appearing in every breakdown.

Also keep host delivery separate from listening-app engagement. Simplecast can report requests for audio served through the RSS feed, website, or players under its measurement rules. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other apps can report behavior inside their own products. A download does not by itself prove completion.

If the number looks wrong

Check the scope before changing your feed:

• Confirm the correct show is selected.
• Confirm the report time zone and date interval.
• Review included and excluded filter values.
• Check whether a split limits what appears on screen.
• Make sure the overall date range contains every episode's full age window.
• Compare the same metric rather than mixing downloads and unique listeners.
• Note whether an analytics prefix was added during the period.

Export the report after confirming those settings. The file is useful only if your notes preserve the definition that produced it.
