4. Use the period control to choose Day, Week, Month, or Year. The default view covers the past 30 days.

• Downloads count clicks on the download button on SoundCloud.com or the embedded player. The listener is choosing to save the file to a device.
• Plays count listening on SoundCloud.com, its embedded player, iOS and Android apps, and its API. For podcasts, Plays also include streams and downloads through the RSS feed.

If you are asking how many people clicked SoundCloud's save control, use Downloads. If you are investigating podcast consumption delivered through the feed, inspect Plays and its source context. Do not add Plays and Downloads together. A button download can contribute to the activity already represented elsewhere, and the metrics have different definitions.

Expect different reporting delays

A number can look incomplete simply because SoundCloud has not processed every type of activity yet. Its Advanced Insights documentation says plays from signed-in listeners update in real time, while other plays update within 24 hours.

Offline listening has another delay. A SoundCloud Go subscriber's offline play is added after the listener reconnects. SoundCloud says this activity can appear as much as 30 days later because offline listening can continue for that long before reconnection.

The Individual Track Insights guide says that track-level insights update every 24 hours. A track module can therefore lag behind a real-time logged-in play shown elsewhere. Note which screen supplied the number before calling the difference an error.

For a durable record, save a screenshot and a short note containing:

• Track or all-content scope
• Start and end dates
• GMT as the dashboard time basis
• Metric name, either Downloads or Plays
• Date and time checked
• Any known delay, such as offline activity

A manual record is less convenient than an export, but it preserves enough context to recreate the check. If SoundCloud later adds an export, verify it in the current help center before making it part of your routine.
