How to move podcast from Podbean to a new host

To move podcast from Podbean, import the complete show into the destination before changing the Podbean feed. Compare both RSS feeds, add Podbean's 301 redirect, verify the existing directory listings, and publish one ordinary episode from the new host before changing the old account.
The order matters. A redirect tells apps where the show now lives, but it does not copy missing episodes or bring Podbean's private account data with it.
Before you move podcast from Podbean
Write down why you are changing hosts and test the destination against that requirement. Compare storage, private content, team permissions, advertising controls, publishing workflow, support, and analytics. Our podcast hosting company comparison can help if you have not chosen the new provider.
You do not need to leave Podbean only to add Podder. Podbean supports third-party analytics prefixes. If the rest of the hosting setup works for your show, installing the prefix is a smaller job than moving the feed, archive, embeds, and production process.
For a planned move, keep Podbean active while you prepare the destination. Gather the current RSS URL, original audio where available, artwork, and login access for Apple Podcasts Connect, Spotify for Creators, and any other claimed platforms.
Make a short migration record:
| Item | What to save |
|---|---|
| Podbean feed | Current public RSS URL |
| Destination feed | New public RSS URL |
| Catalog | Published episode list, dates, and audio status |
| Episode identity | GUIDs from recent and older episodes |
| Reporting | Podbean exports and cutover date |
| Distribution | Access to claimed directory dashboards |
The general podcast host switching guide covers the shared migration checks. This guide concentrates on Podbean's own redirect control.
1. Import the Podbean show at the destination
Create the show at the new host and run its import tool with the active Podbean RSS URL. Leave the old feed public until the process completes. The importer needs to fetch both feed records and audio files.
Count the copied episodes. Check a recent release, an old release, and any trailer or bonus item. Play the audio and compare titles, publication dates, descriptions, duration, artwork, season numbers, and episode numbers.
Review Podbean-only account data separately. Drafts, scheduled items, private podcast access, team roles, advertising settings, subscriber records, and hosted pages may not be available through the public feed. Decide what needs a manual copy, a new setup, or an archive.
Stop if the catalog is incomplete. Fixing an import is easier while Podbean still serves the untouched source feed.
2. Compare the Podbean and destination feeds
Open both feed URLs in a feed viewer. At show level, compare title, author, description, category, language, explicit-content setting, and artwork. Keep these fields stable during the move.
At episode level, inspect GUIDs along with visible metadata. Apple's guide to changing hosting providers says each episode GUID should remain unchanged. Apple also calls for consistent audio, metadata, and season and episode numbers. If an importer creates new GUIDs, an app can mistake old releases for new ones.
Do not combine the move with a rebrand or archive cleanup. First prove that the unchanged show can publish through the new host. Make content changes after one routine release reaches listeners.
If you need a quick explanation of which records sit in a feed, read what an RSS feed is. The feed holds public show and episode data, not the whole Podbean account.
3. Add the Podbean 301 redirect
Podbean's official moving-to-a-new-host instructions provide the current route:
- Open the podcast in Podbean.
- Go to Settings and then Feed.
- Open Advanced Feed Settings.
- Paste the destination RSS URL into Redirect to a New Feed.
- Select Update Options to save.
Copy the feed URL directly from the destination host. A website homepage, episode link, or Apple Podcasts listing is not an RSS destination.
Podbean also documents how to remove a redirect by deleting that field. Do not use removal as a casual test. Once directories and subscribers have followed the new address, reversing the route can split requests between feeds.
After saving, stop publishing from Podbean. Future episodes should come from the destination so there is one current catalog.
4. Confirm the Podbean feed forwards correctly
Open the old Podbean RSS URL in a private browser window. It should resolve to the new RSS feed, not to a Podbean website, account screen, or error page. Record the result and the date.
Then check the podcast in the listening apps that matter to your audience. Confirm that the existing show listing remains, episodes appear once, artwork is correct, and old audio plays. Do not submit the destination feed as a new podcast. That can create a duplicate rather than updating the existing show.
Apple says a redirect from a major hosting provider normally handles the feed change without another edit in Apple Podcasts Connect. Use Apple's manual feed update only if the old host cannot provide a working redirect.
Directory pages may cache details for a while. Judge the move by the continued listing, correct catalog, working audio, and arrival of the next episode rather than one stale text field.
5. Update Spotify for Creators
Spotify asks creators with externally hosted shows to update the RSS link and host after a change. Its RSS and hosting-provider instructions specify this path:
- Sign in to Spotify for Creators and select the show.
- Open Settings.
- Review the current RSS feed and hosting partner.
- Select Update.
- Enter the new RSS URL.
- Confirm the destination host and submit.
This changes Spotify's record for the existing podcast. The Podbean redirect still matters for other apps and feed subscribers.
6. Publish a normal episode from the new host
Once the redirect works and your main directory listings are intact, publish the next regular episode from the destination. Avoid a special format or unusual schedule for this first release. A familiar episode makes failures easier to identify.
Check that it appears once in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and the other apps you monitor. Compare the title, show notes, artwork, duration, and audio. Confirm that the destination host records incoming requests.
Review your website and production tools at the same time. Replace Podbean players, media URLs, links, or automations that remain tied to the old account. The RSS redirect cannot rewrite an embed already placed on your site.
Export the Podbean analytics and billing records you want to keep. Label the final report with the cutover date. The destination host starts a separate reporting series, so do not combine both dashboards as if they used one collection method.
7. Change the Podbean account only after checks pass
Do not cancel because the destination importer says it finished. Wait until the listener path has worked from feed to app and through one new release.
Confirm all of these items:
- The old Podbean RSS URL reaches the destination feed.
- The imported catalog is complete and playable.
- Spotify identifies the new RSS URL and host.
- Apple and other important apps retain one existing listing.
- A new episode has distributed from the destination.
- Podbean reports, billing records, and original files are saved.
- Website players and production links have been reviewed.
If a check fails, keep both accounts accessible while support investigates. Provide the old URL, new URL, affected episode, app name, and time of your test. Those details are more useful than a general report that the migration failed.
Podder does not import Podbean's analytics history. If you remain on Podbean, you can install the Podder prefix there. If you move to another supported host, wait until the destination feed is stable, then start Podder Analytics as a new measurement series.
FAQ
Where do I redirect a Podbean podcast?
Podbean places the control under Settings, Feed, and Advanced Feed Settings. Enter the destination RSS URL in Redirect to a New Feed, then select Update Options.
Will my Podbean analytics move to the new host?
No. The public RSS feed carries published show data, not the private analytics history in your Podbean account. Export needed reports and record the cutover date.
Can I use Podder without leaving Podbean?
Yes. Podbean supports third-party analytics prefixes, so a host move is unnecessary when independent measurement is the only goal. Move when another hosting requirement also favors the destination.
See who's actually listening.
Podder gives you audience demographics, per-episode analytics, and chart tracking. The Chartable alternative that goes deeper.
