Spotify podcast monetization requirements in 2026

According to Spotify's current Partner Program support page, Spotify podcast monetization requirements in 2026 start with five application criteria: hosting on Spotify for Creators, a legal address in an eligible market, at least three published episodes, at least 2,000 Spotify consumption hours in the last 30 days, and at least 1,000 Spotify audience count in the last 30 days. Meeting those numbers lets you apply to the Spotify Partner Program, but approval still depends on policy review.
Spotify can change eligibility and market availability, so treat the Monetize page in your Spotify for Creators account as the final check for your show. The details below come from Spotify's current Partner Program support page.

Spotify says the Partner Program uses streams for eligibility and revenue even though plays are the primary audience and engagement metric elsewhere in Spotify for Creators. For this program, a stream counts when someone listens to or watches an episode for at least 60 seconds.
The five application criteria explained
Your show must use eligible hosting
Spotify's standard eligibility language says you must host the show on Spotify for Creators. That requirement matters if your RSS feed currently lives elsewhere. Do not move a working feed solely on the assumption that passing the audience threshold guarantees approval.
Spotify also notes that Megaphone organizations should speak with their representative. Creators on another hosting platform are told to ask their provider whether access is supported. Check the current route for your account before making a hosting decision.
You need a legal address in an eligible market
The creator or business must have a legal address in a market where the program is available. Spotify's support page currently lists Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States for Premium video revenue.
Eligible markets can change over time. Confirm your location in the Monetize page rather than relying on an old article or screenshot. Some revenue features can also differ by market, even inside the broader program.
Publish enough episodes
Spotify's published catalogue requirement is at least three episodes. This is the simplest threshold, but it is not a reason to rush filler into the feed. Every submitted show is still reviewed against Spotify's Partner Program monetization policies.
A small catalogue can technically clear the episode rule while still making the consumption and audience targets difficult. Build a repeatable show before treating monetization as the editorial plan. Our podcast monetization guide covers sponsorship, subscriptions, services, and other routes that do not depend on one platform program.
Reach the consumption threshold
Spotify requires at least 2,000 consumption hours on Spotify during the last 30 days. This is a rolling period, so an older spike can fall outside the window before you apply.
Consumption hours reward sustained watching or listening, not only starts. Use your Spotify for Creators dashboard to see the eligibility progress Spotify recognizes. Do not try to reconstruct official eligibility by multiplying a public play count by episode length because actual consumption varies and Spotify applies its own program definitions.
Reach the audience threshold
Spotify also requires at least 1,000 audience count on Spotify in the last 30 days. This requirement only uses Spotify data. Host downloads, Apple listeners, YouTube viewers, and a survey audience cannot be added to reach it.
That separation is important for growing shows. Your total podcast audience can be larger than the audience Spotify sees, while the Partner Program still shows you below its requirement. Read Spotify podcast analytics explained before using a platform metric in a broader sponsor report.
What happens after you qualify
Open Monetize in Spotify for Creators and confirm your location and whether you operate as an individual or business. Spotify says eligible creators can then see their progress and application.
When the criteria are met, select Apply now and accept the program terms. Spotify reviews the content against its monetization policies. Numeric eligibility is therefore the start of the decision, not an automatic acceptance notice.
If approved, complete the account and payment setup Spotify requests. The support page directs approved creators to set up payment details through Spotify Payouts. You cannot begin earning until that step is complete.
Spotify also requires two-step verification after earnings reach its stated monthly threshold. Follow the prompt in your account because payout security and thresholds can change.
How revenue works inside the program
The Partner Program can produce ad revenue and Premium video revenue, depending on the content and where it is consumed.
Ad revenue
Spotify says participants receive a 50% share of revenue recognized when an ad monetized by Spotify plays in their episodes, on or off Spotify. You choose ad-break positions, and an episode needs at least one ad break to earn ad revenue through this route.
That share is not a guaranteed CPM or a fixed payment for every stream. Fill, market, content, demand, eligible impressions, and recognized revenue all affect the outcome. Keep platform earnings separate from direct host-read sponsorship revenue in your books and reports.
Premium video revenue
Eligible video episodes can earn when Spotify Premium members in supported markets stream them without dynamic ads. Spotify says its proprietary formula considers factors that may include qualifying consumption time, the Premium user's registration market, unique Premium users, and overall eligible video consumption.
A qualifying video episode still needs an ad break. Spotify does not publish a universal per-stream rate for this revenue source, so any calculator promising one exact figure is making assumptions the platform itself does not guarantee.
How to stay eligible
Spotify says a participating show must publish an episode and earn at least $10 within any six-month period to remain eligible. Pausing the Partner Program stops ad delivery in affected episodes and also stops Premium video revenue.
If you pause, Spotify notes that ads can take time to stop on other podcast platforms. A pause lasting more than six consecutive months may also leave the show short of ongoing eligibility requirements.
Build a simple maintenance checklist:
- Keep publishing on the schedule your audience expects
- Review Monetize for policy, market, and threshold changes
- Keep payment and tax details current
- Place and review ad breaks intentionally
- Track platform revenue separately from direct deals
- Keep access and security settings current
What to do if you do not qualify yet
First, identify the actual constraint in Monetize. If audience count is short while consumption is strong, work on Spotify discovery and conversion. If audience clears the line while consumption does not, inspect episode format, retention, and whether new listeners understand the show's promise.
Do not buy plays, run misleading loops, or publish filler to manufacture eligibility. Artificial activity damages the data you need to improve and can create a policy problem during review.
You also do not need to wait for Spotify before monetizing the show. Direct sponsorship can work for a small, specific professional audience. Membership, listener support, affiliate relationships, products, and services follow different economics. Our guide to how many downloads you need to make money explains why audience fit can matter more than a broad total.
Use your host or an independent feed-wide source when a sponsor asks for total delivery across apps. Spotify's program threshold only measures Spotify activity. Our podcast sponsorship guide covers the evidence and campaign structure a direct buyer expects.
The sensible order is to build a show people return to, verify your progress in Spotify's own Monetize view, and apply when every criterion is marked eligible. Treat program revenue as one line in a broader monetization plan, not as the only possible finish line.

FAQ
How many listeners do you need to monetize a podcast on Spotify?
For the Spotify Partner Program, Spotify currently requires at least 1,000 audience count on Spotify in the last 30 days, plus at least 2,000 consumption hours in that period and at least three published episodes. You must also meet the hosting, market, policy, and review requirements shown on the Monetize page.
Does Spotify pay podcasters per stream?
The Partner Program has more than one revenue stream. Spotify says creators receive a 50% share of recognized revenue when an ad monetized by Spotify plays in an episode. Eligible video episodes can also earn Premium video revenue based on Spotify's proprietary formula and qualifying consumption, not a public fixed rate per stream.
Can a podcast hosted elsewhere join the Spotify Partner Program?
Spotify's current standard eligibility page says the show must be hosted on Spotify for Creators. The same page tells creators using another host to ask that provider whether it supports access and directs Megaphone users to their representative. Check the Monetize page for the status of your own show before changing hosts.
