To submit podcast to Player FM, give Player FM either the public RSS feed URL or the show's Apple Podcasts link. Its current help article directs mobile users to Settings > Import OPML/RSS and web users to the add page. For a public podcast, submit the canonical feed, then verify the resulting show page, recent episode list, and playback before sharing the Player FM link.
Private or premium feeds use a separate import flow for an individual account. Do not use that route to create a public directory listing.
Prepare the feed before adding the show
Player FM needs a source it can fetch. Get the canonical RSS URL from your podcast hosting dashboard rather than copying a page from your website.
Check these items before submission:
- The feed opens without a login or browser security challenge.
- The URL begins with
https://orhttp://. - The feed contains the intended show title, author, description, and artwork.
- At least one published episode includes a playable media enclosure.
- The feed is the public version, not a private subscriber URL.
Player FM's official submission article says it accepts either an RSS feed URL or an Apple Podcasts/iTunes link. The RSS route gives you the clearest source to inspect when something goes wrong.
Open the feed in a browser, where raw XML is expected. Search the page for the newest episode title and inspect its enclosure URL. If you need a map of the components, what is RSS feed podcasting? covers how your host, feed, directory listing, and media files connect.
How to submit podcast to Player FM
Choose the web page when you have the feed ready on desktop, or use the mobile import menu while signed in to the account that will manage it.
Option 1: use the Player FM web page
- Open Player FM's Add a podcast page.
- Paste the public RSS feed URL or Apple Podcasts link.
- Review any show result that Player FM returns before adding another version.
- Follow the page prompts to add the show.
- Open the public show page and compare it with your live feed.
Search before treating the show as new. Player FM may already index it through an existing directory source or an earlier listener request. If the existing result points to your current feed, use that page rather than creating a duplicate.
Player FM's help center also gives a mobile route through Settings > Import OPML/RSS in its Android and iOS apps. Open Player FM, go to Settings, select Import OPML/RSS, and enter the public feed URL or Apple Podcasts link. Submit the value and open the show returned by the app. If you intend to share a public Player FM page, confirm that the show syncs to the web catalog.
The menu name includes OPML because the same area can import a listener's subscription list. A publisher adding one public show should enter the individual feed or Apple link, not upload an unrelated subscription export.
Public and private feeds follow different paths
A private feed is tied to a subscriber and may contain access credentials or a unique token. Player FM says private or premium feeds should be imported while signed in through its feed import tool or through Add private RSS feed in the mobile app.
That action adds the feed for the account using it. It does not turn paid content into a public directory listing. Never paste a subscriber's private URL into a public submission form, support ticket, shared project document, or screenshot.
Podcast directory distribution explains why a private subscription and a searchable directory page solve different jobs.
Verify that the Player FM submission worked
A successful import screen is only the first check. Follow the path a listener will use:
- Search Player FM for the exact show title.
- Open the show page and confirm the publisher and artwork.
- Compare the latest episode title and publication order with the RSS feed.
- Start playback and move forward in the episode.
- Open the Player FM page in a private browser window.
- Inspect the listing's feed link, where available, and confirm it is the canonical feed.
Save the public Player FM URL in your distribution record. Include the canonical feed, submission owner, and last verification date in the same record.
Player FM says it streams regular plays from the publisher's server, so host-side delivery data can identify requests associated with the service. Its analytics guidance names separate user agents for its web, iOS, and Android products. Keep those platform labels together when you report Player FM activity, but do not mix their delivery requests with unrelated in-app engagement metrics.

Fix Player FM feed errors
Player FM publishes a useful list of failure causes in its feed import troubleshooting article. Work through the source before repeating the submission.
The URL is a webpage, not a feed
A podcast homepage usually contains navigation, an embedded player, and episode links. An RSS feed contains structured XML for the show and episodes. Return to your host's distribution or RSS settings and copy the value labeled RSS feed.
The Apple Podcasts page is an accepted alternative according to Player FM, but a generic podcast website is not the same thing.
The feed has no playable enclosure
A podcast feed needs a media element for an episode. Publish or repair the episode at the host, then inspect the live feed again. A draft episode visible inside the hosting dashboard does not help the directory until it appears in the public RSS.
Test the audio enclosure in a private browser. If it requires a login, expires immediately, or returns an error, fix delivery at the host or media server.
The feed is inaccessible
Check the URL from a network and browser that are not signed in to your hosting account. Look for a redirect loop, certificate problem, expired domain, server error, or security challenge.
A feed can appear healthy to the publisher because an authenticated browser has a cached session. Player FM's fetcher does not share that session.
The URL format is incomplete
Player FM requires the feed URL to begin with http:// or https://. Copy the complete value from the host. Do not remove the protocol or paste only the domain and path.
The feed is blacklisted or conflicts with policy
Player FM notes that a feed may be blacklisted at the publisher's request or rejected under its terms and privacy policy. If you own the show and do not know why a restriction exists, contact Player FM support with proof of the public feed and the listing you are trying to correct.
Correct a stale or duplicate listing
If Player FM already has the show but points to an old feed, do not solve it by adding another page. Player FM's feed correction article asks publishers to email support@player.fm with:
- The Player FM link for the podcast
- The URL of the correct RSS feed
Include the old feed if you know it, plus a recent episode that demonstrates the mismatch.
When a current feed stops updating, compare the feed linked by Player FM with the one in your host. A host migration can leave a directory following an old URL if the redirect was missing, removed too soon, or never applied to that listing.
Keep the listing current
Make show-level metadata changes in the canonical RSS feed first. Player FM has a separate support article stating that category or keyword changes come from the feed and then propagate to directories that index it.
After any host move, title change, or artwork update, recheck the Player FM page and newest episode. Keep the verified public URL on your website so listeners do not land on a stale duplicate.
Once the listing plays correctly, start tracking your show with Podder and monitor Player FM as one delivery source within the show's broader analytics view.
