Podcast statistics 2027 do not yet describe research conducted in 2027. This is a current evidence snapshot for people planning into 2027, reviewed on October 21, 2026. The latest verified primary sources cover US audience reach in January 2026, platform preference in the third quarter of 2026, format behavior through the first quarter of 2026, and US advertising revenue for full-year 2025.
That timing changes the interpretation. A year in the page title tells you when to use the page. The source window tells you when the evidence was collected.

These rows are not one dataset. Survey reach, platform preference, format use, and market revenue have different bases. Do not add them together or use one as the denominator for another.
Methodology and source windows
The Infinite Dial 2026 is the broad audience source. Edison Research at SSRS conducted an online survey in January 2026 with 2,050 US residents age 12 and older. Half came from the probability-based SSRS Opinion Panel, while half came from a non-probability sample. The survey was offered in English and Spanish, then weighted to national US population figures for people age 12 and older.
The wording changed with the medium. Results through 2024 asked about listening, while results from 2025 onward ask whether someone listened to or watched a podcast. That creates a definition break. The current reach values measure consumption across audio and video, not audio listening alone.
Edison Podcast Metrics supplies the platform and format rows. Its US service interviews 20,000 weekly podcast listeners age 13 and older each year, measuring listening across networks, shows, and platforms rather than publisher downloads. The headline table keeps the quarter and respondent base attached to each result.
The revenue row comes from IAB's Internet Advertising Revenue Report for full-year 2025, released in April 2026. PwC compiles direct submissions from companies selling internet advertising alongside public corporate data. PwC does not audit the submissions or provide assurance. The result measures US podcast advertising revenue, not global revenue, creator earnings, or total industry value.
Audience reach for planning into 2027
The broadest current US result is 80% of people age 12 and older having ever listened to or watched a podcast. Ever-consumed reach shows trial at some point. It does not show current habit.
Monthly reach narrows the window to 58%, about 167 million US residents age 12 and older. Weekly reach is 45%, about 130 million people on the same base. Weekly consumption is the more relevant national context for a recurring show, but it still says nothing about whether those people follow or finish a particular series.
Age segmentation also needs its denominator. Monthly consumption reached 68% among US residents ages 35 to 54. That can support a statement about adoption in this age band. It cannot establish the age profile of your show.
For the prior annual snapshot and its original publication context, see podcast statistics 2026.
Platform and format behavior
The latest public platform cut is newer than the national reach survey. In the third quarter of 2026, YouTube was the service used most often by 40% of US weekly podcast consumers age 13 and older. Spotify followed at 17%, while Apple Podcasts accounted for 9%. These percentages describe the service used most often, not each platform's total reach or your show's distribution.
Format use also overlaps across people. In the first quarter of 2026, 82% of US weekly consumers age 13 and older said they ever actively watched video while listening. In the same study, 80% said they ever listened to audio-only podcasts. A person can do both, so the values should not be combined into a market share.
For your own reporting, keep a platform view separate from host or prefix data. What counts as a podcast download explains why a server-side request is not the same as a survey respondent or confirmed play.
Advertising revenue and response
IAB reported $2.9 billion in US podcast advertising revenue for full-year 2025, an increase of 17.6% from the prior year. This is the latest completed-year market result available at the review date. It is not a 2026 result or a 2027 forecast.
Audience response is a separate survey measure. Across Edison Podcast Metrics data from the second quarter of 2025 through the first quarter of 2026, 76% of US weekly podcast consumers age 13 and older said they had acted after hearing a podcast ad. The source groups website visits, information gathering, recommendations, purchases, and promo-code use into that response. It is not a purchase rate or campaign attribution figure.
If you are pricing inventory, use podcast advertising rates to separate CPM math from national market revenue.
How to apply these statistics to your show
Start with the question your number must answer. National reach can show the scale of podcast consumption in the United States. Platform preference can guide where you check presentation and discovery. Advertising revenue can frame category demand.
None of those measures replaces first-party show evidence. Compare episodes using the same delivery definition and window. Keep audio downloads apart from video views unless you can explain overlap. Label platform analytics by platform instead of presenting them as your whole audience.
A sponsor deck should pair market context with your own delivery record, audience fit, and agreed campaign measurement. The podcast analytics guide maps the jobs that host, platform, and prefix data can do.
